Hi,

I'm trying to play H&H but it's not working. Neither the big Play button on this website or the Gilbertus version my friend put on a hard drive for me.
The first error I came across was it couldn't find Java. I downloaded the latest version of it and eventually managed to put it in the path of my system so the game finds it. When I try to play it I then get a window pop up and instantly vanish and a different error message as follows:

C:\Haven & Hearth>java -Xms256m -Xmx512m -jar haven.jar moltke.seatribe.se

My laptop is a Toshiba, Win7 64-bit with an Intel graphics card. Does anyone have any suggestions for me to make it work?

Thank you!

Gilbertus version - totally outdated - better use it's successor Ender client viewtopic.php?f=27&t=14575#p165075

Here's a clue to the problem -
Code: Select all
# Problematic frame:
# C [aticfx32.dll+0x25861] gslCfxExit+0xe1

aticfx32.dll \windows\syswow64 part of ATI/AMD Catalyst Driver

So you might check whether there is a newer version of graphic drivers for your model at Toshiba (or to Rollback to an older one i.e. Catalyst 12.1) - better use manufacturer ones than windows update ones

Report back please

So I downloaded the Ender version 64bit and went through the install instructions. I got an error message of something like "cannot run 64bit program on a 32bit platform". So I then downloaded and installed the 32bit version of Ender and ran it. It thought for a second, flashed a window at me and then gave me:

C:\Games\HnH_Ender_x32>.\updater\HnH_updater.exe
The system cannot find the path specified.

C:\Games\HnH_Ender_x32>"C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\java.exe" -Xms256m
-Xmx512m -jar haven.jar moltke.seatribe.se

With the same 'problematic frame'. I found out my laptop is a satellite c660, can you tell me more about checking/changing 'graphics drivers'?

Thanks for your help!

There are are different Toshiba Satellite 660 Models with different graphic chips - so you need to check first what graphic chip you have. You can try to read it out with GPU-Z Freeware

Hi Borka,

techpowerup says my graphics card is called Intel(R) HD Graphics, do you need any more info? I checked if my driver was up to date, and it was.

Can you suggest anything else I could try?

Thanks.

My laptop doesn't have ATI/AMD drivers and Catalyst Control Center; it's Intel based. So I uninstalled java and deleted all my H&H files and restarted my laptop. I installed the 64bit java (my laptop is win7 64 bit) and then clicked play at the top of the home page. The window flashed up then vanished. same story with 32bit. My friend tried it on his desktop with java 32bit and it worked just fine. which irritated and excited me at once!
I don't know what to do now. I'd like to see if the original version works before trying Ender or another. I'll trawl through the forums to see if there's a solution for me.
Thanks for you assistance Borka.

not sure if this helps, it may if you are not very good at computers. (ignore it if you know better)

-sometimes java auto-install 32 bit on 64 bit even when you think you clicked 64 bit, i dont know why that happens, but possibly the browser you use. it sounds retarded, but it happened to me when i got a new pc, and to one of my friends who clean-installed everything on his pc a while ago. go to java site and check if you have java installed properly or not using the same browser you are opening the haven site with. make sure your browser uses the same bit(32/64) java as you download the client with.

-this may sound really noobish and maybe just me, but at first i didnt know chrome (at least on default) keeps the downloaded official client at the bottom bar of the browser and does not auto-start or create a shortcut (autohaven) on pc screen. i had to click this bar to actually start the game and later created a new shortcut from autohaven file. can this be it?

I'd search for AMD/ATI entries in registry, if there are any delete it - then go search for aticfx32.dll on your system partition and delete it aswell

Hi,

After quitting and not playing HnH for a while, my friend and I discovered a way to make it work! So now I can play! Borka, you were right about the AMD drivers, I just didn't know how to delete them. Here's what we found, I hope it helps others too.

Works now, so happy.
