I use a dash move towards a deer to start engaging it, we met at a point but while I was gaining initiative points with dash, the deer stalled and constantly looked back and forth between south and southeast but not attacking me while I was right next to it..
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

really old bug, doesn't have anything to do with any combat moves, just walk a tiny bit southwest when attacking a deer
