Client no longer loads at all (Solved)

Postby Moogie » Thu Apr 08, 2010 2:35 pm

**EDIT** I ran CCleaner and cleared out my temp files. Game loads up now. Original text below:

This is weird. :( I was playing earlier today, but suddenly the outside map was acting horrendously laggy (graphical lag, very unusual, 1-2FPS) but inside buildings it ran smoothly.

So I figured I'd close the client down and reboot. I'd had that window open for about 3 days (due to how much trouble it is getting H&H to load normally).

But now, even after rebooting, the client won't even open. :/ I click Play, the file downloads, and then nothing happens and I have a dead javaw.exe process running in Taskmanager. I've tried multiple times (always remembering to kill that process) but the window just doesn't appear anymore.

I was okay with my blackscreen problems before, at least then I could try 20 times and the game would eventually work. :) But now I can't even get that!

Any advice? I've already tried clearing my browser's cache. What else could I do to try and fix this? Server's up at the time of this posting.

I should add that the temp fold you cleared with ccleaner is also the categories that wipes out saved games in flash games. To prevent this from happening put C:\Documents and Settings\-your account name-\Application Data\Macromedia in the exclude.
If you keep focusing on the shadow behind, you will not see the light in front of you.

Being successful isn't just about hard work and succeeding, it is also about picking yourself up when you fail.

Thank you for the tip. :)

I realised (I think) why this problem happens, because it just happened to me again:

I use Firefox, and more specifically, rely on Firefox's inbuilt download manager. It seems that if you choose to 'Open' a file URL, instead of saving it somewhere first, you must keep that download window open during java's downloading/installing procedures (i.e. keep it open until the game itself has loaded, not a moment before). Closing the download window seems to delete any files it had downloaded temporarily as 'Open'ed instead of 'Save'd.

When I closed the window prematurely, java's progress bar immediately stopped where it was and tried to run the game. But since it hadn't finished grabbing all its datafiles before Firefox purged it, it doesn't function fully. So to stop this happening again, either keeping the download window open or saving the client launcher somewhere should suffice.

On a different note, I'd also like to add that since updating my Java version, the installed shortcuts to Haven (from this version of the client: http://www.havenandhearth.com/java/haven.jnlp) deleted themselves from my system and never returned. What's up with that?
