Unable to Build a House? Bug or not?

I don't seem to be able to build a house.. Every time I try to.. I get a message saying "You cannot build that there" The land is cleared so.. Why not?? Am I missing something or is the game spazzing on me? I've never built a house, so I don't know.. Help?

On most surfaces you have to pave the ground first: Plow it, then lay stones (which you can chip from boulders).

This is also recommended for stuff you can build regardless of paved or not, since the stone layer shields a bit against decay.

So I laid stone and it's still not letting me.. >:( All I want is a house. Is that too much to ask for?

give it a good bit of space, just to be sure build a buffer zone of pavement. Send in a screenshot

Yes, screenshot might help.

Btw: with lay stones i ment the action from adventure -> landscaping menu, not just dropping stones to the ground.

Another thing that might disrupt your effords is that you're standing on the space the building will occupy. The space has to be clear of any non-inventory objects (this includes you, your buddies, everything you can adventure -> lift, ant hills, rabbits, treestumps, areas of other construction signs etc.) or the construction sign for the building won't appear.
