Repair of metal cauldron

I made cauldron out of copper and gave it to my friend. Now he says that cauildron needs repair, but he cant repair it with copper bars, it requires cast iron only. Why cant we repair copper cauldron with copper? And why only cast?
If it requires any metal to build it, i suppose it must require any metal for repairs.

same problem here with my tin cauldron, and i have no space for my cauldron inside my house.

Just to note this occurs with other similar items which use a generic item type, such as dream catchers only being repairable with yarn. However others like the metal plow are fine with anything.
