I'm going to bump this topic because I am having the exact same issue.

Java Web Start opens a Downloading Application window and the progress bar does not move. I have tried both the 'play' button and the downloadable client from the PAQ page.

If I can't get the game to start, I can't even give it a fair shot.

I'd appreciate if this was answered because there are now at least three users with this issue.

And yes, I've gone through the basic troubleshooting. (Updated Java, tried a restart, etc. etc.)

Is there perhaps a direct download of the client that doesn't go through Java's Web Start?

This is a common problem with Java, I believe. Even third party clients have it. I personally don't know what causes it.

If you don't mind using an unofficial client, I'd recommend Pacho's.

Use one of the download links on that page, avoid the online client as it has the same problem. If you cant get it to start, check some of the later posts in that thread, they should be able to help you out.

I am having the same problems as all of the other posters, but I am also using Ubuntu and thus can not use Pancho's downloadable client.

Open up autohaven in gedit, change all instances of http:// to https://

Open up the java plugin control under System > Preferences and delete your local files.

When you start up autohaven, it may ask you to confirm the H&H SSL cert.

If it still doesn't work, close the downloader, clear the local java files and start again. Eventually, it will go through.

Also, make sure you actually haven Sun Java installed and not just the OpenJDK.

Download taking forever

Postby icerage » Mon Jun 28, 2010 7:44 pm

The java web start "Downloading application" dialogue is taking forever and seems stuck, how long should this take? Also the forums are very laggy, is the server just really bogged down atm?
