I have first aid, I'm not wearing any head gear, and I have no trouble equipping anything else so its not lag. What the hell is going on?

left click the gauze so its on your mouse and then either right or left click(been to long ago to remember) your character, NOT your portrait in the corner, NOT your guy in the equipment tab but your dude in the middle of the screen thats walking around.

Thanks man, holy shit that is confusing. Why isn't it just equipped like normal equipment?

It's mostly because we thought it good that it could be applied to others, but only by those who have the First Aid skill. Good choice or not, that's the reason. :)

Banded head seems to not play nice with wardrobe use.

Known and intentional. Since gauze cannot be unequipped without becoming a bloody rag, it would be strange indeed if it worked in a wardrobe.

Note to self: "'Gauze' is a one-time-use item (when used as (head) bandage). As such it turns into a 'bloody rag' when taken off in any way, shape or form."
