game get stuck while starting up (white screen)

the game worked before but I think after a crash it got broken somewhere. whenever I start the game it loads up the login screen and then the character select screen. I can choose to start from where I logged off or at my hearth stone.

after selecting that though the game comes up, usually with the user interface and sometimes with parts of the in game world but it gets stuck. if I move the window off screen the part that's was hidden comes back white. minimzing the window makes everything white. I can't close the window properly anymore and I need to use the task manager to kill off javaw which is using lots of ram and 96% cpu. just leaving it running for a while changes nothing.

I think it's pretty clear I need to make the game redownload the files but I have no idea where they are stored so I can't remove them. how do I do this?

I am getting this too on the computer I am using for the week, the most likely answer is to update your video drives and stuff like that, Sabatti (SP???) can give you the right answer....
Me meanwhile am stuck with it working once in a blue moon... The PC is in German for all Interface.......

sadly, this is a work-pc that doesn't even have any sound drivers. updating video drivers can't really be done by me. weird thing is it did work before.

try clearing your java cache, however you do that

I'd love to do so if I knew how.
after this latest crash just now I got the same problem in yet another computer, so now 2 can't succesfully load the game and just get stuck in an endless loop somewhere eating infite cpu cycles. (both older single core machines and running xp 32b)

actually, googling helped more than I expected in this.
I found http://www.java.com/en/download/help/plugin_cache.xml quite easily. it instructs to open the control panel though which is locked down at this computer. running the javacpl application in the java install folder however gives the same window. with this I could purge the cache and made java redownload the game files.

it didn't fix anything, of course.
I was able to make the java console appear but it has become unresponsive too, so no help finding a solution there either.

as a final note: deleting cache again, uninstalling java, rebooting everything a few times and reinstalling java could possibly fix it, sure. do I feel like doing that every single time this game crashes? not so much.
maybe I'll come back in 2~3 years when the game has moved on to it's early beta stages. it does look somewhat promising after all.
