They just don't care about or kiss the asses of their players enough for this game to ever be self-sustaining, much less profitable. It's sad, but true. People don't like to be paid to be told they can go fuck themselves.

I like this game, I really do. But I am one out of a billion people. Most people will not like this game, these devs, nor the price they charge as they are. And that's why 1) this game doesn't belong on Steam, and 2) jorbtar don't want to. Even though they're stupid enough to begin charging for a game that has a fanbase the size of Hitler's fanclub, they are, I admit, smart enough to know the wider world wouldn't put up with their bullshit.

HnH has more gameplay than your average free2play MMO, and costs less to play.

Granted. And all of the issues that keep new players out of HnH have been covered in the P2P thread in Critiques and Suggestions a thousand times over.

But again, take Towns. Its reviews on Steam are almost entirely negative. Know why? Universally, it is because it is a crappy alpha, with loads of bugs and missing features, that costs too damn much, and that had a community that was hostile to critics or anyone who had a suggestion. That, and the dev team abandoned it. Granted, I don't expect jorbtar to abandon their magnum opus. But does any of the rest of this sound familiar to you?

If it does, do you now understand why HnH would not survive on Steam? I do.

I've spoken my peace. I will quit this thread. ;) Thank you.

edit: Although I have noticed jorb reaching out and at least considering other people's comments, and even working with them. I think they are trying to improve. And for that I am thankful.
Maybe in a few years. Who knows.

I would actually expect it to do poorly on steam for the same reason a lot players don't last long: it's confusing, unforgiving, and practically requires a wiki to play. Although, it seems like people will often enough surprise you with their dedication. I don't think HnH is "a crappy alpha," especially compared to some of the decently well-reviewed polished turds out there. There are some bugs and crashes but that makes sense in an alpha and they are often quickly resolved. And maybe I'm reading the wrong threads, but Critique & Ideas seems like a decently civil place to me. Some resistance to suggestions is not necessarily a bad thing, either.

I'm not saying it should be on steam, just that probably wouldn't be a disaster. Well, the server overload probably would be...

You forgot L. Ron Hubbard.
