I'm a relatively new player and I've been focusing on farming lately. I've noticed something with my carrot fields that has me wondering if I'm doing something wrong. Usually, as soon as I see a crop become harvestable, I collect it right away and replant the best seeds. The problem is that my seed quality seems to be improving much more slowly than I expected based on guides I've read. A villager I met recently mentioned that he sometimes leaves certain crops in the ground a bit longer before harvesting, but I wasn't able to ask for details. Now I'm confused about whether crop timing actually affects anything or if the quality growth is entirely determined by the seeds and soil. For those of you who spend a lot of time farming, do you harvest carrots the moment they're ready, or do you wait? If there are mechanics related to crop stages that a newer player might overlook, I'd really appreciate an explanation. I'm trying to build up a decent farming operation and don't want to develop bad habits early on.
Thanks for any advice. I've really been enjoying the farming side of the game, but there are a lot of small mechanics that aren't obvious when you're starting out.

If you want to try to "grind up" the seed quality, the most important thing is rather not-intuitive: do not plant all seeds at once.

Plant a portion of them at few hour intervals, so that at least one batch gets the maximum roll. (AFAIK, they're determined randomly and change at certain interval, someone may have better knowledge on how long exactly, could be up to 8 hours.)

When I aimed to get up hemp, I paved a special zone for it with where I had dozen or so mini-fields to plant/harvest at rotation. Exact design is probably up to personal preference, but I think I ended up doing bunch of 1x10 tile areas that I could plant one stack of high quality seeds into.

... do not plant all your highest seeds at once.

Personally I'm not to sure about leaving crops standing for longer. The thing is that after a initial positive boost, you also can get a secondary negative boost later on.
(I have not seen the opposite yet though. A positive after a negative one. But have not specifically checked/tested for that.)
Yes, you could for example get two +5 boosts. Which are of course rarer than just one +5.

O yea. Hunting www's with a high Farming level probably fastest method to raise the quality of your crops. (Needs good Exploration & Perception too.)
... Something to work to.

Seems obvious now that it's been pointed out, but considering the ESL population on the forum, it was at least believable :C

It seems there is no way to simply remove the "home page" links from user profiles. While it's possibly just another thing that flew under the radar, the bots also have had the tendency to make a seemingly innocuous post, only to add an offending link later.
