Don`t swim near cliffs ;)

Postby MrGemini » Mon Sep 07, 2015 1:49 pm

Greetings Hearthlings,

a friend and me were walking with our best chars to friends for hours. On the way, we reached a THIN River, both sides of it had a cliff AND a bit of land before it.
So we both tried to swim to the other side, and our characters were on the ground - but still in the swimming animation. Trying to reach the cliff wasnt possible, so we drowned

It would be great to implement porting to friends with brand new characters anyways, i wont walk this way again to die because of a bug and pay for it :p
See you back in Haven when porting is implemented (perhaps in the shop :p)

(This is no YOUR TEARS CRYEVRYTIEM Thread. I deal with it - its just a warning for other players and a hint to the developers.)

Have fun!
Greetings, Gemini & Tinkababe

If that's how you feel then why not use the bug forum?

When playing with map editing tools, I am unable to reproduce a cliff on the edge of water which is impossible to scale from said water. Cliff immediately bordering on deep water is scalable from said water, from what I can tell.

Also, testing swimming interactions with characters that matter, and having poor outcomes, is arguably not a bug in anything save possibly the end-user.

It could be in Bug Forums, in Help Forums and here and i decided for here, to warn other players who travel longer (Not everybody is reading the bug forums).

Yeah i should make an alt first to test a way with (swimming included) to travel for a whole day in hours to send my main after him - good way to use game and private time ¦]

I dunno why you cant reproduce it, or if you possibly are able to find my death or skull in your Serverlog or something (i think after your answers the answer is no :D ), but two guys happening the same in one minute who played haven for longer is "possibly" not the mistake of an end user 8-) . Sad i dont have a screenshot while we were SWIMMING in ground few tiles near each other.

Well my statement is here, and others should use my warning helpful and possibly you could think about some changes in the porting system for fresh chars, Jorb. :)

More than likely you were hitting the cliff's hitbox wrong. Some of them that are less then straight do extrude further out than their models would suggest and leave you flailing for a few seconds while trying to climb up, this definitely happens on land. Seems to me that's the most likely cause for your deaths.

Why would you swim there anyway? You make it sound like it was an unusual river. Why not cross a normal section of the river, without cliffs? Drowning is very dangerous and we've always known this.

Better, indeed, to drown, be frustrated with the game and quit, after having walked all that way in the first place...?

I'm not going to argue with you about that, but I can't reproduce your problem. If anyone else has any ideas in way of explanation apart from Flameturtles suggestion, I'd be happy to hear them.

Cheers.

Chin up mate, it's haven. If you're not a masochistic why are you here? :D
Lucky: haven is so quirky

sure. this is haven xD

- but not so much masochistic to move ~5 planned chars (as tinka and me used in the past) hours and days with "strange weird" deaths (what will happen next? will i die while boating or will i die while jumping down a cliff or will a tornado ant hunt me or whatever) and also self-mistake funny deaths (i.e. running in a bear while watching a film in shift-click-Walking xD). When i calculate right, i will need MUUUUCH hours of walking then ¦] - uhm not funneh ^^ this is also why i made any hint of porting. And the reason of the thread is to not let others happen the same ;)
