misusing the word noob

the comic explains it well enough. im sick and tired of people misusing the word noob. clearly having no clue what it really means. ( do you actually believe we needed to invent two words to describe a new player? newbie and noob?) i remember the days before the internet went mainstream when the terms were understood. then when oprah went online the floodgates opened and legions of ignorant morons came flooding in. since i still remember the meaning of these terms, ill list some differences.

-a newbie will try to join a village or read the forums/wiki to figure out what the hell they are doing.

~a noob will try to kill a bear with his UA skill of 1 and complain when he dies.

-a newbie will try to figure out every single aspect of the combat system before trying to risk anything in PVP.

~a noob using no armor or weapons will keep punching someone in a dragon helm and call hacks when the noob dies.

-a newbie will ask for advice on hunting/farming in order to not starve to death.

~a noob will complain that apples and berries don't restore enough energy.

for those who pull out the tired "language changes over time" argument, allow me to counter with, theres no damn point in having 2 words that mean the same thing, in addition how do you describe a noob if the word noob no longer describes the behaviors listed above?
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.

Neither do figuratively and literally.

I have noticed though some forums and groups pick one and plainly use it. Its likely based on them at one point knowing the difference and then everyone running with the same word. Its part of the mindset of the group based off one word.

If every ones a noob, its easier to make them less human, less be on the same level as you.

i had always believed the misconception came about when noobs got pissed at being called noobs, rather than acknowledging their flaws they simply pretend that they are not liked because they are new. so they lie to everyone they know that noob means your simply new. and this shit spreads.

i could be wrong though.

Sad thing is you are right and so am I. Some times more then one person can be right on a matter. True Noobs will always stay noobs, newbies keep growing. No matter how you see it, that does not change.

What do you call someone, who when starting the game, refuse to learn anything, but kept playing anyways?
Dole for example when he first joined the game back in world 3, refused to learn anything about the game, and even got theft so he could steal dreams from dream catchers.
Early world exploit: Put your hearthfire inside a cave, then hold shift to position a claim right in front of a cave. After 8 hours the claim will be unbreakable. Since your hearthfire is inside the cave, you can still get back inside, and leave, but nobody will be able to enter, effectively making you unraidable for the first 3-7 days. Enjoy

Gosh I saw the thread title and couldn't help but smile. x3 It had always bothered me a bit when people kept using noob, n00b, etc for describing a newbie player because when I had first started playing online games back forever ago I was taught and understood the difference. Noob being more intended as an insult and used to describe someone based on their behavior and actions, not on how new they were to a game. Like an old player of a game who has played it since it first came out could be classified as being a noob just as much as someone just starting off in said game, based on how they acted.. which some examples were shown by the TC already.
