About the nature of the game

Firstly yes I died secondly yes I am mad.

I always wonder what makes this game so "boolean", as Jorb put it a while ago. When if you see somebody, it's either hearth or get raped. I can't say I've had very many experiences where I met someone nice, and whenever it happened, we were in a situation in which we couldn't fight, like they were cowering behind a wall, or we were both naked newbs.
Is it the lack of trust? You can't just trust everyone you see, so it may be better off to just get the fight over and done with. But then, attitudes like that are what cause this distrust.
Is it competitiveness? Where you want everything you can get, and you'll be willing to pry it from the cold dead hands of every living thing in the world? But why would they do that when it's obvious that the character they're about to kill has absolutely nothing? They KNOW there's nothing to take.
Is it threat? That if someone's living nearby, you feel they might overtake you, so you decide to flatten their base?
Is it because everyone's a fucking bell-end? Probably.
Though I always do wonder about the nature of the hearth-lands, and why people act how they do.
I always thought it'd be pretty nice to have a realistic banditry situation, where you might be waylaid and they'd say "Your money or your life". But if you proved you had literally nothing, would they let you free? Or kill you anyway?. Or perhaps, maybe they'll kidnap you? A kidnapping would always be a cool situation, but I don't even think you can lift unconscious people. And where would you put them? They'd probably just lift your base and hearth home. Maybe something pertaining to that sort of crime should be added, wink wink?

So, if you kill people a lot without a second thought, feel free to say why, if you feel like it.

Because they're so empty inside that schadenfreude is the only emotion they got left.

Honestly, my personal experience throughout a couple worlds is that raiders/aggressive ppl are only a small part of the people I meet. Probably like... 5%? So 1/20.

As a solo/casual, in all the worlds I've played I've managed to find one or two people to cooperate with. People I've never met before will come together and help create a small base.

Of course, that 5% of the time where I've met raiders, ... my character died. But its not that bad overall.

Not sure what percentage of the playerbase are "peaceful" by nature.

You see this in every survival game where pvp is an option.
People just enjoy bashing other people.
Don't underestimate the human nature in WANTING and NEEDING to feel powerful, one way or the other =3

even if ther are some who would kill on sight, there are as many who would stop by and say hello, it just that its hard to give those a chance and because of that they usually leave a far weaker impression than those who kill you or attack you.

if you do take enought measures and actually give someone a chance, you might find not everyone in the game is a kill on sight #noscope Mt.Dewritos pvp champ, and that some people in this game are really nice.

one of my good friend i met him in the wild after he left a runestone with his hs when i was hermiting in w7

Raiding is generally a competitive action IMO, if you're not raiding to lord over the peasants then something is obviously wrong with you.

Killing your peasants was usually bad for business.
You should treat them good enough for them to stick around and bad enough for them to stay in line.

Peasants gave you income/tribute/tax. Sprucecaps don't.
