I think it is wise to minting your own currency. Accepting a currency produced by some other nation is not a good idea.

It would be beneficial for larger-scale trade; one could sell things here and use the coins to buy things elsewhere, or vice-versa. As it is now, there is no point in selling things unless you're interested in buying the things up for sale, and you cannot buy the things up for sale unless you have the things being bought here.
