Facebook gaming bait?

Postby jordancoles » Mon Sep 12, 2016 11:26 am

First of all I understand the irony of sharing this video but I've been noticing these bait posts on Facebook lately and it's sort of funny to see.

Basically, really shitty game devs steal ingame footage from other less-known games and then slap their game's name onto it in an advertisement.

This post for example is advertising some sort of flying simulator or whatever that looks like it could be half decent for a browser-based game, but in reality the game itself is a 2D shitshow that was quickly thrown together and tied to a greedy cash-shop.

When these games gets too much hate (or lawsuits?) they close down and open under a new but similar name.

This seems to be a fairy new tactic (at least through Facebook ads), but in the past this same game (and a few others) has adverted with half naked ladies on ad banners instead of stealing footage from others. So the clickbait itself is still pretty constant, their methods have just changed lately.

Here are some examples of their game's art lol

Overly sexualized, 90% female and not comparable to the actual game at all

Edit: And here is the actual game, which is nothing like the video or the art they advertise with

Don't click this shit and don't support their games!

I recall League of angels sometimes "pull an Evony" and rip stuff from other people. There was a blatant ripoff of League of Legend's match summary in one of their ads once. I don't think they are facebook based though.

Curiously, the app version is more decent about their ads and portrayal.

I'm curious to try this: https://overthrown.io/

it's supposed to be a 50 player turn based something, but it requires account before trying, so I didn't play yet
