Let's not forget the wiki!

Postby Ants » Tue Aug 08, 2017 6:21 pm

I came back to the game after a few years long hiatus. A lot of things have changed since i had last played, so I turned to the wiki for guidance. To my surprise, a LOT of things were missing. Some items have no pages, some pages have almost nothing on them and many pages are downright incomplete.

Come on, guys. Don't forget about the wiki. Let's try to keep it updated.

I'm adding as much stuff as I can already. I'm currently experimenting with wood types and items that can be used as wall decorations so I can add pictures. I'm also creating articles for the cash shop hats.

It's pretty satisfying to add stuff to it. I've made every article in the cash shop category and I'm adding more. Hopefully this encourages people to buy more stuff. After all, it's hard to decide whether a hat purchase is worthwhile if you don't know what it looks like in game.

Good job, and a great thanks! The wiki could definitely use some more editors.

A wiki is a collaborative effort. You don't need to know a lot of code, but if you know the wiki markup codes. There are buttons to use for the most common things. If you do know the code, great! There' s more you can do to make it look pretty and organized. Simply creating a page helps as it's a reminder that something needs to be done, and it's not hard to do. Simply search for an item, and there's an option to create the page in the search list if it doesn't exist. Page missing information? Add the information or even just some basic stats, materials needed, or get a screenshot to display the item. Don't worry about formatting or if it'll show up on the tables of the wiki. Someone that understands the formatting and data management can put things in the right place. Have a short guide (or even a long guide or complete manual)? Add it. Have poor grammar or English isn't a strong point of yours? So what! There are others that can come behind and make a page more readable. Have a few pages you always go back to? Be a fact checker and make sure that things are up to date from time to time.

There's lots of work to do in keeping the wiki running, and it's a lot of work if only a few people do it. It's only a few minutes if the work is divided up among many.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

I'd love to contribute to the wiki tbh, I'm always out of my base so travel around a lot in the different biomes and am fairly knowledgeable with regard to which plants are which and what grows where (though I've never bothered to learn the official biome names, lol, I just call them things like 'the desert' ... 'the autumn leaf one' ... 'the pink lands' ... 'the dark green one' ... )

I also make a point of making every single item in the game each world, both builds and crafts (when feasible and possible, I won't be making another realm anytime soon.) :) ... so I'm also familiar with mats etc.

But ... I wouldn't have a clue how to go about adding information or the confidence in my delivery ... but if anyone who is working on the wiki is wanting certain pics, info, etc I'm only too happy to post it to them via pm and they can adapt it for the wiki. I don't know how old the link is sMartins posted but I have most of that information if any of it is still needed just let me know ... not the combat stuff tho ... :P
