I liked these:
Planescape: Torment
Fallout 2
Gothic 1 and 2
Warcraft 3
Total War series
Witchers
Thief: Deadly Shadows
Arcanum

Think I liked PST and thief the most, then maybe gothic and warcraft. Amazing atmosphere.

I recommend Chaos Reborn if you are looking for a strategy game.
Iji is a pretty good action platformer RPG, and it's free. Same with Cave Story.
I recommend Pyre if you like RPGs and think the idea of a "sports game" in a fantasy world is interesting.
Mother 3 is my favorite JRPG of all time.
Oh, and there's this game called Haven and Hearth. I'm sure you've heard of it, it's pretty popular.

Is there not one out there? Sounds like a good business opportunity to me.

You have Steam and GOG. Both give game recommendations based on what you've played, added to the wishlist, and follow, but they only look at games in their libraries. When it comes to Steam, that's nearly all major PC releases and tons of independent developers and studios. GOG is DRM free, so they don't get anywhere near the titles, but they do get a lot of the classics that are no longer supported and licensing deals can be worked out.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Definitely check out Risen (the first one). It's from the same devs and it's basically the next Gothic after the dev left their previous publisher and left the rights to the Gothic name behind. Unfortunately Risen 2 and 3 are much less like Gothic 1 and 2, being more casualized to reach a bigger audience. From what I've heard Elex (newest game by dev, again different publisher) goes back to being Gothic-like again, but I haven't played it myself yet.

sounds like you like strategy more than anything. not what i normally play.

you can grab an emulator and play langrisser or bahamut lagoon for the SNES. you need translation patches for both. you could play act raiser if you like the sim aspect of it. the genesis version of langrisser was called warsong and got released in the states, though i hear it was changed a lot.

any and everything by spiderweb software is fucking gold. exile and geneforge are must plays.
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.

Neither do figuratively and literally.

Underrail is a pretty good isometric RPG if you can get over some of its flaws.
