Handedness of Utensil Manipulation

Postby Ysh » Wed Feb 13, 2019 7:18 pm

Hello hello to you all again my friends,

Some time ago I have some discussing with some of the other men about this topic. The topic of how the men will utilize their hands to manipulate their utensils for consuming nutrition. For the example, when I must ingest I will equip utensils as follows:
  1. If I have spoon, I will equip it in right hand. I will use this hand to eat for whole duration of eating.
  2. If I have fork, I will equip it in right hand. I will use this hand to eat for whole duration of eating.
  3. If I have tongs, I will equip tongs in right hand. I will use this hand for whole duration of holding.
  4. If I have fork and knife, I will equip fork in right hand and knife in left hand. I will use these hands for whole duration of cutting and eating.
  5. If I have tongs and knife, I will equip tongs in right hand and knife in left hand. I will use these hands for whole duration of holding and cutting.
Summary is that I will have holding or movement based tool in right hand as I am mainly right handed. Cutting tool will then go to left hand if I need to use it, since my right hand is already full of holding tool. This seems to be logic to me.

But some of the other men, they tell me of very strange things that they do. For comparison, here is some thing I have hear some other men doing:
  • Holding fork in right hand if using just fork, but holding fork in left hand and knife in right hand if using fork and knife.
  • Using only hands to eat.
  • Holding fork in right hand if using just fork. If using fork and knife, holding knife in right hand and fork in left hand for cutting, but then switching to knife in left hand and fork in right hand for eating.
  • Using two sticks instead of fork or knife or spoon.
What about you all other fine friends? How do you dismantle and movement your foods to swallow? Do you do some strange things like these other men I have talked to? I am interest in this perspective. Thanks to you all for this consideration.

You are left handed or right handed?

While cutting the fork is fixed holding and knife doing movement
While shoving knife is in fixed position while fork does movement

But i always put fork to mouth not knife ;)

So you will use fork in right hand if you do not need knife, but will use fork in left hand if you do need knife?

Holding fork in right hand if using just fork, but holding fork in left hand and knife in right hand if using fork and knife.

sophistication
Using only hands to eat.

only if tortillas are involved
Holding fork in right hand if using just fork. If using fork and knife, holding knife in right hand and fork in left hand for cutting, but then switching to knife in left hand and fork in right hand for eating.

superfluous
Using two sticks instead of fork or knife or spoon.

only benefit i've ever noticed from chopsticks is that theyre quiet, no metal screeching on glass/ceramic. also makes you eat slower.

FWIW i'm right handed and when using a knife, i switch fork to the left hand. like borka said, the knife is doing all the dirty work here and needs the precision of a dominant hand. meanwhile the only thing my left hand/meat hook needs to do is keep the steak from moving and get it to my mouth, which is basically all my left hand is capable of doing.

At this point I have more dexterity with using knife with left hand, because I am used to using left hand for knife. I do not think I could use knife in right hand well, despite being right handed.

That is what I do. I've never thought about it much but it is inconvenient and I will try to re-learn this particular skill.

This is really odd.
