Is it possible to catch up as a new player??

Postby Actuarius » Fri Dec 13, 2019 9:25 pm

No stat caps I like but it seems.. Once you have a "group" ahead, you will never catch up to that group. Ever. Or is there some very extreme logarithmic curve where stats of 500+ arent that much better than 1500?? Would it be possible for a new group of players to break in and establish a new kingdom without being steamrolled?

Second question - What would be considered High stats in this game, at this stage?

Thanks!

Pretty much, yep.

Not if the big fish decide to take an invested interest in you and your kingdom, but it is possible to create those things and to be left alone (mainly because no one cares rn)

I'm not entirely sure, but it's safe to say it's in the thousands

What's more important, Hi qual gear, or hi stats? Could a "Geared" toon/toons defeat higher stats who have lower Qual gear? Or is there rare gear that can help to even the odds?

Or perhaps.. Is it possible to out-tactic a higher stat opponent group?

Thanks!

High quality gear can definitely help with that, but it require high stat or high-level allies to make or supply you with those gear. It's hard to say which is better, stat or gear, considering there are multiple factors going into who will win a fight.

If you are going against experienced players with high quality equipment, it usually mean that they already have high stat though, so keep that in mind. Stat does matter in combination with high quality gear.

If you are a competitive group going into this game as new players, it's always best to ally with other competitive groups to catch up. Even solo players can do pretty well by just having experienced neighbors helping them out, this is my case at the moment. You will rarely ever catch up against highly active group that had a headstart since the beginning of world in term of stat and gear, but if you are fighting them then you can rely on having more players and being more coordinated.

It depends. In 1v1 higher stats with light gear will likely beat you unless they have no concept of the combat system. Group combat has more potential to overcome an outstatted situation but that too requires most of your teammates to have somewhat comparable stats to your opponent. It is to the point where you may need to full-dmg cleave a person 5+ times to be able to KO them depending on your weapon q and STR.

Yes and no. If you have a solid and co-ordinated group with decent gear and stats you may be able to get a quick combo on one person, but in 90% of cases one side heavily outnumbers the other so it can be pretty hard.
In 1v1 there isn't much in terms of out-tacticing a higher statted person IMO, unless you resort to traps like destroying mine supports to KO them when they go down a cave ladder, or trapping them in a house and then bashing it.

You can catch up on gear farly well (they can just be bought at a fair quality)

aAs an invdividual, you will never be able to catch up "as a newplayer" well on stats, unless you have a looooot of time/help.

In terms of stats, easily. On an individual basis you'll have to put in less work to get the same stats as anybody who did it before you because
1) Higher qualities in general make every aspect of the grind much faster/easier;
2) Much less competition for resources than earlier in the world;
3) Every couple of months there's a patch that greatly buffs FEP gains;
4) It's easier to spam scholars alts via trade at this point.

Nobody is actively grinding stats atm. You could probably be top stated character in a few months if you really wanted.

On the flip side, if you want to be competitive in terms of qualities that's probably not a realistic goal, and you'll struggle to get as many heart containers as people who own topQ anvils.

If you play smartly and are fortunate to have nice neighbors I think it's a really fun time for a new person maybe not to catch up but to feel very powerful very fast. Through some trades and stuff people can get some really impressive looking numbers to start off well on their merry way.

Yup, like me I am far away from having the best stat but I can now produce 200q+ curios, tools, each type of farm animal, 100q+ trees, and have some really high quality crops just because of nice people that either give me free shit or gave me a great deal on a trade. I'm less than two months into the game and I have it all apart from 100q+ metal and clay.

Honestly first time starting out I would highly recommend just being a hermit but still be social and make friends with nice people. At where we are in the world, now is the best time for a newbie to learn the game and work on diplomacy for the next world. Being in a big village now would just mean you get spoiled and don't know how to manage your character efficiently on a fresh wipe.
