Following thread was split off from the World 13 announcement after this post: viewtopic.php?f=39&t=69935&start=150#p873980

I may have missed a few posts on the subject before the above post. Please use a PM if you think a few more posts need to be moved. I'll use my best judgement on if they should stay or be moved.
Opinions expressed in this statement are the authors alone and in no way reflect on the game development values of the actual developers.

Prelude: World 13

Postby Burinn » Wed Mar 24, 2021 9:41 pm

I almost cannot believe that people still beat the atomized powder that once was the skeleton of a horse over botting.

But how do you know which players are "dedicated programmer" bots? Should Jorb and Loftar just manually monitor every single player?

Liss12 wrote:If Jorbtar wanted to get rid of bots they would get rid of bots, your wannabe-coding-expert bot advocating is irrelevant and honestly pretty annoying.

I don't have a link to the post, but Loftar himself has stated on this subject that botting simply cannot be completely prevented, and that botting having a large impact is a symptom of design flaws, and that is why they do not enforce an anti-botting policy. It's not because they don't want to, it's because they cannot feasibly do it satisfactorily.

I think people are exaggerating the impact of botting. Regarding how rampant botting is, on the other hand...

Bots make this game enjoyable, doing menial tasks like chopping blocks, boards, quarrying stone etc. by hand is not rewarding or enjoyable in the slightest and I don't know why you'd argue in favor of it.

Add a stockpile flag that works like the survey flag does for soil but instead of being limited to soil it works for everything that will go into a stockpile that's been pre-placed (boards, blocks, leaves, crops etc.) and you will have eliminated 90% of the reason that people use bots in the first place.

True, if you’re a larper/noob other people botting doesn’t affect you since you want to live in single player land and aren’t competitive anyway. If you are competitive you’d happily rub two sticks together for 16 hrs for pvp so it doesn’t bother you either.

Everything there is to be discussed about bots has been discussed already. Every "I FIGURED OUT HOW TO FIX BOTS" post is just embarrassing. People who complain about bots are embarrassing.

I'm literally expiriencing spanish shame because of your posts, you think telling people to stop talking about botting issue is in any way original unlike their complaints?

There hasn't been a post about "fixing botting" that's been thought out for more than five minutes in years. They're a waste of everyone's time.

You need novel ideas to "fix botting". You don't need novel ideas to tell someone they haven't thought very hard about it.
