The Praiseworthy Thread

Postby DanteThanatos » Wed Sep 01, 2021 12:52 am

I've noticed that the majority of the forum posts are either "please fix","wipe when" and "insert-system-here sux".

But we all are still playing and most of us love this game and keep coming back to it.

In this thread we say what we like the most about the game. What we think is praiseworthy in this world that Jorb and Loftar created.

Let me start then by saying:

I really enjoy the mood the game gives, especially at the start. The feeling of accomplishment after you've built a palisade and is finaly safe from the exterior world. The thrill of prospecting an ore vein that was much needed.
To see the progress of your base or your character taking on bigger challenges.

I really do appreciate the game, it saddens me to see post after post of unconstructive criticism, and I bet it affects them too.

Let's try not to derail this thread into "I disagree with what the person above said, x thing sux and need fixin'!"

This is a message to the devs. Thanks, really. I wish I could do more to help.

This is my favourite game, and I really like how open they are to suggestions/criticism when it strikes their fancy.

The atmosphere of pioneer spirit at the beginning of the new world is totally intoxicating, nothing else like it.

Permadeath attracted a community of toxic internet bullies with tragic lives who desperately seek people they can believe have worse lives than their own. It's nice to see the community slowly moving away from the toxic internet bully mindset towards something more conducive of building a supportive community which can help the population grow. Then again I stay out of the discord channels. The most toxic seem to gather there where they cant be censored for slander.

Also, I think the Devs by now have thicker skins than you may expect. Though I am sure they appreciate the positivity.

I always liked the complexity and the potential, they joy of discovering not just places or items but of exploring the game mechanics also. I like the potential. The game has always been a source of inspiration for me.

I also like that opinions are allowed here unless they are slanderous. Not many places left on the internet or outside of it where speaking one's mind is tolerated.

Sure, you can think of this thread that way. May be projecting but I'm not one to judge.

What I mean is stuff like the discovery system. It's awesome. No need to change there. Stockpiles are great. Both in utility and visualy.

And thanks for the bump, btw.

The discovery system is retarded. Scratching your head trying to remember which thing you haven't discovered and having village members try to teach you relevant things is aids. Having to go through the whole cheesing process before you can make cheese racks is aids. Having to do this on multiple characters is aids. Having to do this every world is aids.

And, more importantly, it confuses the shit out of every new player who looks something up on the wiki and doesn't understand the nuances of the system well enough to know how to discover the *right* things. Moreover, the wiki is often wrong and you get stuck because you've no way of knowing how to discover the damn recipe or what actually goes into it unless you manage to bully the answer out of someone who has it.

Man, I did not know how much I hated that system until you praised it.

I've suggested in the past that custom client modders add a feature to assist with keeping track of discovery progression. Thus far they have instead elected to dedicate their efforts toward providing remote access to my PC so they can access nefarious content under my online identity. Also the time my bank account was accessed through my own computer the only security flaw on my system was a custom client.

Anyway, really came here to say that one of my favourite game mechanics is the curiousity system. Tables made it so much better.

I want to see a game made which uses the curiousity system, Salem's farming system and the quality system from wurm online. A man can dream.
