I think they are probably on par with what they expected. Jorb and Loftar aren't stupid, they knew they were marketing and alpha after all.

I play during all times of the day, even when I wake up to piss at night I'll swap out some curiosities and I see anywhere from 200 to 900 players online any given time of the day. Especially now that the free playtime has expired for most, I'd say probably more than half of those are subscribers.

If 500 players were subbed for the minimum amount of $6/month - Thats $3000/month Jorb and Loftar are getting for a game they were hosting for free anyways.

Of course, this doesn't include one-time purchases such as the account verification where they could have made even more this first month as a lump sum. I wouldn't be surprised if they already made over $6000 - Remember there were 1800 players awaiting launch. Which honestly, still isn't that much for the work they had to put in to make this awesome game.

I don't know, man. They handled the whole pay2play thing really badly. They aren't very good when it comes to business. I think they likely expected more money than they got, although the money they have received so far seems to be enough to keep things afloat.

I am worried that the money might stop flowing in the coming months, though. I hope it will not.

What reason would they have for not responding unless they are trying to hide something..?

They handled notice badly, but that's par for the course from them they don't really like giving advance notice.

Beyond that, the "limited free trial" thing was a little wonky at first. But otherwise this is an incredibly standard income model for MMOs. Even the pricing is in line with pretty much every other game out there.

I think they handled it fine if you include the adjustments they made in response to community feedback.

yeah, they aren't known for advance warning, but apart from that, they seem willing to make the f2p model at least potentially competetive, rather than giving you say, a week, to decide if you like haven then forcing you to pay, piss off, or reroll. I've seen much worse models, and i dare say most of you guys have too

I've always backed the concept of a sub model for haven, I truly hope it works out and I throw my money in the pot for that without hesitation. We'll see how back the tradeable coin drama gets, after all if something exists it can be stolen.

If they were good businessmen they would have realized that in this case, advance notice would have been beneficial.

From what I can tell the pricing is in line with big fancy MMOs like world of warcraft, not games that are still in alpha. But if people are willing to pay that price, I guess it's alright. I've paid for a subscription and I have several hats because I'm addicted to this game, so I guess I can't complain. I gotta admit it's a lot of fun.

As for them handling it fine, well, they were a little hostile sometimes. I recall they told a guy to go fuck himself, hehehe. The adjustments were nice, though.

Oh certainly. We are very happy with the response thus far, and see no reason for either of us to do anything else professionally apart from this, at least while we can keep this ball rolling.

I wouldn't tell anyone anything ahead of time if I were a dev. Never EVER make anything even resembling a promise to the general public. I run a business and it's never "We can" or "I will" or anything definite like that. Always "We should be able to" or "most likely be done by", etc.
Humans, especially those in first world countries, can be incredibly entitled, and sadly, those that do act that way make it very tough for those who serve the public, and more often than not the more laid back folks are lumped in with the whiners, and suddenly you get enormous shitstorms like GamerGate where the worst of both sides are doing all the talking. In that particular example, the worst of one side controlled the media surrounding the medium and thus could put the opposing side's worst in the public eye to gain sympathy

Humans suck. I wish I was a dolphin.
