m8.

Honestly I suggest you save up for yeomanry, drop a claim somewhere, and start building from there. Now that hearthfires can't be used to block off caves it would also be prudent to keep your hearthfire outside if you insist on living within a cave, and crawling in an agonizing speed towards everything you own that is within a cave.
W3 to W6 - Blockland. Special mentions: New Avalon, Tarn of Hotdog, Red October.
W7 - Elvenia, til we all got lazy.
W8 - Cult of R'lyeh, til the deeps called us back.
W9 - Tartarus, til death/wizards came for the land itself.
W10 - ???, ruined and forgotten.

I met a person like you another day, grab all his courios from box right in front of him, excuse myself for being a dick and tell him to build a fucking claim. This guy have a lot this far. Still feel a little bad for stealing from this poor guy but i guess this is how you learn and teach others to play this game.

Like seriously guys...get a life claim.

I always grab the stuff, tell them to do better in the future (and in case they want to know: how) and then give it back to them.

But hey, people are different...

Most people are using caves and HF blocking for storage space. Even if you plan on living in the cave, there are certain things you cannot do inside a cave (farming, tar kiln, etc.). The best way to "claim" a cave is either
claim in inside of the cave and build a roundpole fence on the claimed area, so you'd need Trespassing to get in. *OR* put your claim pole right near the entrance and then have a basket or two over the cave to protect it.

There are ways to deal with bats. Bats spawn and despawn the same way other animals do. If a bat is in the way, just leave, do something for awhile. You're "important" stuff(like housing should be at beginning and your
situational/long term stuff(like the house with 8 cupboards filled with silkworm eggs) at the back. You can UA the bat if you got UA at 15 or more (you can "aggro" the bat through a fence and engage it separately) if its in
a cluster, just make sure to have gauze and poultice ready. You can make a fence tunnel so the bats can't fly over it to access your stuff.

Oh btw, grabbing stuff in front of other people and vandalize houses and the like just because are dicks and need to get a life. 4000 LP + claims isn't readily available to new players and while I not a carebear by *any* means
I hate bullies. Being a raider/thief is one thing, that's part of the game. But just because your a bad guy, doesn't mean your a bad GUY... have some class.
