If the client handles 3D objects and wrap textures as 2 different types of asset then dyes would refer to recrafting the same item with dyes, the ultimate item being the same, only different texture (which is quite some work from jorb considering the amount of items available).
If 3D objects are directly linked to their textures then there is the need of basically reintroducing the same item x times (where x = the number of dyes available).
So yeah, dyes are kind of hard to introduce unless you have a flexible mesh system, but that means more computing power required.
That being said I think we'll enjoy the items as they are, at least for a while.
