Oh you want to be a raider. Simple enough work on combat get a boat travel the rivers and lakes and when you find an opportunity take it. Now realize the bigger "pirate" factions will be looking to hurt you so be careful those scents. :P

Unless there's a massive update for a bunch of sea monsters and forageables, oceans would never be fun.


This is pretty much what needs to happen.

Oceans need to be a new biome and huge as fuck with their own unique resources, wild life and so on.

Oceans presented in Haven as it is would be incredibly boring. There's just nothing to do when on the water and if your idea is 'Raiders can raid other ships!' or 'Long Distance Trade!' then you're lost in a fantasy. The odds of bumping into someone at random with landmarks, features, and dedicated roads is already minuscule. Take all of that away and no one will ever see anyone else on the endless expanse of blue. As for long distance trade, anyone who has walked a character 8 hours out to their/their friend's village can tell you right now, walking for long periods of time isn't fun or immersive gameplay.

Wrong, big aquatic creature hunting. The talking whale! Super rare Orca whales, sharks, etc. Those bigger fish can bring in more seafood recipes. Treasure hunting, pearl diving, coral farming, everything. The ocean would be grand. Galleons for offshore trading, like a wagon on the water. Pirates to raid & haul. You see the ocean as such a lame thing, when it can bring so much more.

If we're staying in viking, wild theme these would be the types of ships:

I think about something like a sea around the current map. Maybe wreck ships and some exotic, smaller islands to explore with some foreign food, curios and biomes. That's what Vikings were doing lol raiding other lands. Also to get to the other side of the map you could just sail around it, it's a help in trading and moving items.

However it's just an idea to show that there are a lot of cool mechanics to be added - Salem was stuck in the endless development about some walls and caps.

Meh. This game has pretty awesome and unique mechanics that ought to be recognised and incorporated into more games. A seafaring game using similar mechanics but with the extra sea themed stuff that are mentioned in this thread could make for an awesome game. Nobody's saying stop development on this. But, you know, if they ever had access to a larger development team and could work on a second game, they have already got the basic mechanics for this other game fleshed out, so it could work.

I know it won't ever happen. But, it could be a good game.

But this is too :)
