There was a wise soviet conscript that was surrounded by the enemy on the battle of Stalingrad. A mortar shot teared his pants apart causing a big hole in his pants right on his right butt cheek. He felt a glorious cold ass breeze of wind on his butt cheek, like it would be sent by stalin himself, he said - hide your butts

I wonder how the responses would be if you ask this on the Salem forum.

More people playing Salem care about Haven than people playing Haven care about Salem so I think the responses would be similar but more favourable towards salem obviously.

I think both are bad.

I have enjoyed and spent 100's of hours in both, and in general I had similar playstyles in both... so a carebears perspective....

Salem
I doubt I would ever go back to Salem. I left the first time because of the purity/quality madness in 2013. After re-trying it again and finding out how the DEV's function and who was running things, I left for good. (basically when W8 started)

Salem - Pros
Tech tree feels more 'complete'. (not as many items with no purpose)
Easier to do it all without an alt-army.
Easier to learn/play - no need to discover things you dont even know you are missing know.

Salem - Cons
Dev favoritism - pay-2-win (note - I have not problems with the cash shop, its the extras that I have issue with)
Extremely toxic community and devs.
Griefing mechanics (insanity/disease/etc) - mainly due to forcing a playstyle or abusing new players.

Hafen
I tried playing multiple times but could never get past the legacy client, but serious starting in W8. I have also given up on W9 and likely wont play going forward unless I have nothing else to do.

Haven - Pros
Active devs - game is improving without salem-like antics (intervention/favoritism)
Decent community/players.
Good foundation for many interesting game mechanics

Haven - Cons
Lack development plan and balance (where is it going, and why does nobody want my carrots)
Alts are mandatory and bots if you want to 'win'
Too hard to have a stable community/village

Conclusion
Haven is a better game... but I think both with never appeal to enough people which is a shame.

In salem if you try being nice you will get shit on, a pro tip to anyone going to give salem a go, you want to become one of the trolls or else you will be trolled. Badly.

When i settled down, built myself a nice homestead in which i put alot of hours and things were going nice i invited a new player to join me because i was bored, gave him shelter, food, equipment and at the time i was in need of silver (in game currency) to get nicer equipment and get new things for that player so i asked him if he could gather some silver for me. Next day i found my homestead destroyed completely, everything stolen and all of the structures destroyed. He told me i was treating him like a slave for setting him a 50 silver tax every 2 weeks (so i could acctualy keep our claim up and running) and making him build a couple of coal clamps and collect silver. Then after that i decided to join a village only to be lied to, lured out and killed.

Salem is shit.
