In all seriousness, I don't really get why is that a big deal. If a person is asian, he's asian. If a person is caucasian, he's caucasian. If a person is black, he is black. In my native language a black person is called "negr", with no derogatory subtext whatsoever. "Black", on the other hand, often have that subtext, especially when used as slang. However, it's more often used as a derogatory name for caucasian people from southern regions with darker skin, we don't have much people of negroid race here.

But let's not derail the thread further. Nighttime assaults while exercising. We've got two stories so far. Anyone else?

I don't know about other places, but at least in America it's because people are raised here to be hyper-sensitive to anything pertaining to blacks. No one gives a shit about any other race, color or creed, but heaven forbid you say something about African-Americans and all hell is set loose upon you. Some black thug gets shot, people burn a city down. If some Latino or white scum bag gets shot for picking a fight with an officer, no one bats an eye. A lot of it has to do with the fact that the African-American community is one of the most politically active and vocal groups and are quick to pick up any crusade they can find.

It doesn't help that the only controversial topic that gets taught in our laughable public education is slavery, everything else is glossed over. I doubt most people even have half a clue about a fraction the horrors the Native Americans faced during removal. The only name that would come to mind is "Trail of Tears" and maybe Cherokee, other than that, I'd be impressed if they could drop a single name. And Japanese Internment? If that got 5 minutes in your average classroom I'd be down right shocked. Also, if anyone could guess what the Zoot Suit Riots are without a quick google, I'd be quite impressed.
