Ohio always has been a mess of a state for politicians. An interesting fact for non-Americans is that no president has ever been elected without winning the state (since it became a state in early 1800s). The RNC could shore up some of their support there, or they could erode what little is left and cause a landslide loss for the whole party across the country, including in the House and any Senate seats (approximately 1/3) up for election this year.

I agree. WTF is even the point of the popular vote? The electoral college was an interesting way to deal with a lot of problems in a day when vote counting was unreliable and the fastest form of letter delivery was horseback and ship. Today, we have a nearly accurate voting system (can still be cheated, but takes extra effort) and means of communicating massive amounts of information in mere seconds all the way around the world. The electoral college needs to go the way of the Pony Express
