Obviously the only secular, politically correct tradition the devs can implement to avoid hurting everyone's delicate sensibilities is the festivus pole

C.S. Lewis once wrote a satire called "A Lost Chapter from Herodotus". It basically outlines the difference between the secular market frenzy (which he calls "Exmas") and the religious festival ("Crissmas").

If a popular Christian writer can differentiate the two holidays - quite comprehensively, I might add - I don't see why the devs or any of you cannot differentiate the two.

I frankly don't care if they add Santa hats, decorated trees and baubles, candy canes, presents, reindeer, or any of that Winter Wonderland crapola into the game to make a few more shekels. More power to ya. Actually, I hope they also add menorahs - which do see use by atheistic Jews sometimes - latkes, candy coins, and maybe even kippahs and tallits.

This is probably best for another thread, but I will allow you to pursue it or say "no". And if you say "no", we'll leave it there.

Why not? There is one wonderful thing about HnH and building games in general. It is that you may build in them as you wish.

I love the Civilization series, especially 4 and 5 BNW, because they allow you to make religion an important part of things, or not, as you wish. And you can do with your religion more or less as you want. You can make it your own nation's religion, make it spread to other nations, simply not care. And in BNW you can make up whatever religion you want, as you want. This pleases me, and enrichens my games. Even Civ III has technologies you can compete for that are religious in nature, and I do.

In contrast, a game like The Sims series excludes religion almost entirely. You do not have any outlet for prayer, worship, adoration, or the transcendent things at all. Any that do exist are entirely modded, and leave out a great many actions that do occur in most religions - prayer, sacrifices of some manner, meditation, sermons. It leaves the game sadly hollow because for many people worship, religion, spirituality, call it what you like, is a part of their life, if not the core of it.

Even if we don't include IRL religions - which I understand - I do think some outlet of spirituality, religion, sacred ritual, piety, whatever, belongs in this game. I never thought the ancestral shrine was enough, but even that seemed a good start to me.

Of course, it's not up to you or me; it's up to jorbtar, and I leave it to them, naturally. But if they were to make IG religions or religious objects, would it be so bad?

Sure, they could so something more unique for the setting of H&H instead of just le commercialized holiday of modern days. Just some kind of in-game event would be nice. :)

i wouldnt put my hopes up for an event of suck, since jorb said it's likely that last week patch was the last before christmas, and since updates are regurarly around wednesday/tuesday/thursday the chances of us seeing something festive is really low. i ahve noticed lately devs dont seem to prioritaze seasonal patches

Honestly, just add everything.

I don't give fk. what culture.

it would be cool just to have everything around.
Something no game has ever done before.
