It's not so much that the game isn't ready, I think the bigger issue is that the default client isn't ready. Custom clients are basically a must to play this game competetively or even for just an extended period of time.

Steam kids will want to play the game in their steam client and since Amber client/Purus/Whatever else can't be used there, it will just lead to confusion and bad reviews after 20 minutes of playing imo

Default client is not bad. As long as you dont know of better.
You only think it is bad because you are used to fancy custom client

Game is literally unplayable on default client and most the community wouldn't play if they didn't exist.

Being stuck in :cam ortho with no knowledge of anything different or of how to change my camera mode would kill it for me pretty quick

I actually feel a little sick if I play in the default cam for too long

Steam isn't a good choice for hafen, but it's true the game can be marketed more to certain audiances.
It's just a hard question whom.
I think maybe devs/community should run some polls about what other games/genres people play and try to advertise wherever those communities exist.
Of course the expected correlation is that people who play haven play other obscure weird games and then you'd be advertising to small (and possibly smaller) communities

Also it wouldn't hurt to have a community made trailer to the game (with the same music as the existing one because it's great!) that shows new hafen and maybe walks through a few major villages with some people on.
In hafen it might take someone years to actually find out what the game is about in it true potential, you should advertise that highest potential of big villages and social gatherings / big quality factoriers.

In all honesty, I think that the devs are more concerned with making the game better than marketing it, which is a good thing. I do agree that some effort to market the game should be made, especially on youtube and stuff like that. But options are limited. I think that with the state of the game now, the best method of marketing would be for the players to tell others about it, through other communities. I've introduced a handful of people to the game, 2 of which I know enjoyed it and played for some time.

These 'registered users' are not distinct humans but just accounts, It wouldn't surprise me if 90% of these have been throwaway accounts used to spawn a character that erected a claim on some resource and afterwards had been forgotten.

id love to see H&H in steam near Albion, TreeOfLife, WildTerra
for example WildTerra is alot bad , but it sales every day (3$ on sale) and here is online everyday.
mostly i wish H&H Develop faster (core mechanics, optimization, bugfixes) not only sandbox stuff (hats, items, paint)...
its already more good game than others in STEAM, but here is alot to do before release...
but dev can start today if them wanna more tears on the forum and few $$$ more in the pocket...
i reccomend expand Dev team if u wanna expand marketing.

Personally, I prefer word-of-mouth and trying to introduce it to friends who like building and medieval sandboxes. Though it's certainly got a steep learning curve (Something I don't mind, but most of my peers do). It's also well-known that most players quit from boredom or being unable to stake upkeep.
