The funniest part is how everyone moved from IRC to Discord, and whenever I ask what's wrong with IRC I always hear 'but it's too old', like having been usable since 1988 (unlike all those fancy new services that die within a couple years) is somehow a bad thing.

There is merit to this argument. With IRC, I can use whatever client I prefer and which does what I want and because there are tons of clients I can connect from basically any device under basically any circumstances. With Discord you're locked into its two official clients (desktop client and web client) and if you don't like them then too bad for you, you're going to have to use them. Imagine if everyone was forced to use the vanilla client to play H&H. That's how I feel about Discord.

I know exactly what u mean, I urgently needed to talk to my friend the other day but I couldnt call him because I couldnt be certain my mobile wasnt scanning my location data and I could access the code behind the text messages so I smashed my phone with a rock and ate the sim card.

Luckily ive been training a carrier pigeon for past 6 years and I wrapped it in tin foil so it cant be influenced by outside sources so I was able to deliver this vital message but it was a close one.

I have carefully gone over the code used in this forum so that is only reason im talking here. However it would be nice if I could use my custom forum browsing client instead of having to browse default forum, its kind of fking bs tbh i might stop using this forum now that u mentioned it.

Well its because I was sleeping when you checked the forums.

I agree that IRC is way better, its stable, usable on any device, and you don't have to worry that it does something like skype once did. (Sold themselves to microsoft, spammed the application with ads and didn't bother to update its security)
Only reason why I use things like steam, discord, LINE and telegram, are because I have some friends who, for some reason, don't want to use IRC.
Steam servers crash multiple times weekly, making you unable to send or receive messages.
Discord servers are a bit more stable, but I still need more than two hands to count the times when discords servers have been unresponsive.
Latter two are more stable, but they have other issues related to them.
With IRC, I haven't encountered any of these problems, excluding very, very short and local occasional netsplits on some networks.
If you want VOIP, you should use something like mumble, discord voice servers suck.

Forum is slow for discussion, filled with shitposters, and the mods often make the forum more unreadable by arbitrary decisions while leaving random bullshit literred around. There's not much worth dealing with forum stuff besides asking for changes to the game to the devs, or posting pvp videos for that sweet youtube ad revenue.
