In a truly random system, it is very much within the realm of probability, especially when there are exactly two possible outcomes. If you had said "I had 30 or 40 taming attempts all the same sex," for myself, I'd be more inclined to believe something was fishy, but even that isn't a large number, just is in the realm of improbable given the player base size of Haven. People win the lottery every week with significantly worse odds than one in a hundred million (about 2^38).
I don't think the chance is 50% either; I get an extra hide about once every 4-6 animals, and when it triggers it usually triggers multiple times.
This is my main point of weirdness with it; I rarely ever only JUST get +1 hide, i usually get +2 or sometimes more (most i've had so far was 6 hides from a fox)
Can kinda see the same with smelters where you have one smelter giving 7+ bars, but the other smelter next to it giving 0 bars. I mean, swinginess happens and i don't see much of an extreme display of rng as with my strider/forager schenanigans. The problem is that in order to test/notice this, you necessarily must be attempting to forage or flay several things all at the same time.
