what do you mean you remember their monopoly? the disney of today is infinitely more of a monopolistic megacorp that has control of nearly all major telecomm and major media companies through its mergers and buyouts. its never been more of a monopoly in the media world and its hardly a dying company. you do realize that the branch of the disney company that works on movies is basically a front at this point, right? its not even close to the corporate center of disney's branches.

It's really dishonest for all these guys to be trying to find the negative side of everything. I think we deserve some feelgood news u kno, like as a community.

Yeah, we can enjoy sticking our heads into the sand and pretending Disney are the good guys and support them financially while they're actually fighting against LGBT representation in practice. Let's also not forget how their merchandise is produced in sweatshops (caught multiple times, never changed), their Hollywood accounting, their lobbying for ever stricter and longer-lasting intellectual property rights, their aggressive legal action based on said rights, their abuse of copyright law (e.g. claiming they have rights they don't have and suing the actual rightsholders), the way they're buying everything up to gain unhealthy markets shares that would've been stopped ages ago if it weren't for regulatory capture...

But don't worry, they made a statement to appease the Twitter mob so now they're the good guys! Multi-billion dollar companies are our friends and willingly fight for our best interests!

Disney is a global media conglomerate now that owns Fox, Marvel, Lucasfilm and seems to be doing better than ever.

I think you might be misunderstanding the purpose of this thread!

We don't have to necessarily hold Disney on any kind of pedestal or cheer for them at all!

It's completely okay if you don't like nice things

Regardless of any conspiracies or secret agendas that you might believe in, the news article I linked is describing a future for Disney that is already beginning to manifest itself! The simple act of adding characters in to different medias for children that represent minorities is something very positive and wholesome! Having a hero or protagonist that you can identify with as a child is a very special and uplifting thing and I think a lot can be said for the positive societal, social and mental benefits of this.

It's okay to just enjoy the nice news and be happy for children.
