Ore distribution varies per region. You could have been in a region where iron ore is extremely scarce.

True, it was not till I moved did I find a cave system that had iron.

I'll be doing alchemy and self lobotomi... I mean animal tending again this world. I "enjoyed" them in W13.

I achieved all my big goals I've struggled to catch in previous worlds in W13, time to simplify and take it easy

Last i played it was still sprites and not 3d models
