Unsweetened bacon is actually healthy for you, it's a high source of protein and half the fat is monosaturated.

Honestly though, I'm sick of vegetarians that think meat is literally cancer yet don't know a thing about nutrition. Vegan diets can be great if done right, but you need a lot of supplements to stay healthy. Other diets that incorporate meat are just as good, if not better. The only valid reason I see to go vegan is the moral one, and if all the pretty little cows and pigs weren't being killed by us, they'd just be prey for other carnivores, ones that don't know the word "ethics" or suffer from disease, overpopulation and malnutrition. (All of which, by the way is a much slower and painful way to die)

As for animal cruelty, if that's the problem, do some brand research and only buy the meat from ethical farms. Companies will see it's more profitable to do that, and therefor there will be less factory farms.

Not that I'm saying you **HAVE** to eat meat, just that not everything is so black and white.

What is ethical/unethical? Livestock bred purely for meat live in more comfort than wild animals. Poultry and dairy cows tend to have a lower standard of living, yet it seems that the original poster has no problem with animal products, such as cheese (and I presume eggs as well). You've gotta love the cognitive dissonance there.

Yeah the cows eating grass on beautiful polish fields,and later milked,and later the milk is sold and general dairy products are made from it indeed suffer very bad and inhumane life.

Morbid obesity, but then that is more about cutting out all fats from the diet other than what occurs naturally in vegetables. I can tell you that the diet works from a family member's experience. Though when I told that family member what they basically had was a vegan diet, the response was... less than nice.

Also, Potjeh mentioned b12 deficiencies, which really are only specific to vegans due to not eating dairy or eggs. Vegetarians as a group lack a couple of amino acids from their diet that are needed for protein metabolism.

I expect OP is still young and learning things. Congrats on your lifestyle. Don't let others drag you down for your choices. Just don't try to proselytize your new religious beliefs to everyone you meet.
