Just to let you guys know, the gangs that have publicly denounced using gun violence are ones in the most violent city in America right now: Chicago. Ain't slowed the rate they kill people, just in the way they do it.

And potjeh, I always thought you were a bit of a historical scholar. Might I suggest digging up some of the British publications from the uprisings of the various colonies and how they were shown to be rebels and scum? What was the end result? Yep, British rule has been overthrown just about everywhere they're not wanted, and it all started two hundred and two score years ago. Why? Becuz GUNZ!!!! This is why we still only try to prevent people that have been in prison from getting them (and we don't even try that hard at that). IMO, it's still a violation of a person's rights to protection and sustenance. By protection, I don't mean home protection, I mean protection of rights, not personal property. Never keep the firearms where someone can quickly use it against you. better to be robbed and raped than shot by your own weapon. You can live after the others, but getting injured with your own weapon is a shame nobody can truly live down (assuming you live).

Waco occurred because it was viewed as the government overstepping their rights to legislate the people (and it was an overstep), the government seeing it as a dangerous build-up of armaments (it was, and I do mean armaments because it wasn't just guns; but then the government should be afraid of it's people, not the other way around), and a bunch of idiots who thought they were going to be the last stronghold of mankind in a world that was getting ready to go up in flames (nope, just their world for being stupid). If anyone has looked at any of the now mostly declassified material on what happened there, you quickly find out that it was someone in the FBI being overzealous about ending the situation that set off the fast escalation.

There was another incident here a few years ago with some ranchers being denied access to certain public lands for various reasons (taxes, I think was the general issue... a special fee to use certain grazing areas that had never actually been enforced). A lot of the ranchers, relatives, and supporters got together and protested fully armed and was in a standoff with the FBI and ATF for months. I don't recall the final results of the incident, but it has more or less gone on relatively peacefully because nobody wants another Waco (don't need to fuel the cray-cray rebel fires).

TBH, we're not dealing with anything else other countries deal with on a regular basis. We just get broadcast world-wide and poked at because we're #1. And we're public with our shame. We don't sweep it under the rug like some nations. (Well, for the most part... there are some things... lots of things... that have occurred that are questionable with no answers because of "national security.")

Eh I think you underestimate how worse the state of the USA is when it comes to crime, gangs, guns, etc. compared to more civilized countries. Pretty sure most of "the west" doesn't deal with shit USA deals with, on a regular basis.

I live in a post-socialist kinda poor country and murders and shootings and stuff like that just almost never happen. It seems to be a regular thing in the USA when it comes to statistics (shooting divided by population, each year), and here if some violence happens it instantly makes top news and is remembered for a long time. Here guns are not a common thing, collectors and people in gun clubs and police officers may still have them but nobody whines about their "right" to have a deadly weapon. Shootings don't happen. And before you say it's because of ethnic purity and lack of tensions, this is a fresh post-war country with minorities of the ethnicity of the enemy country.

Norwegian police for example almost doesn't even use guns AFAIK. I don't understand what the USA's obsession with the right to have guns is, but I believe everyone having rights for everything is a really bad idea considering some people, believe it or not, may want to maliciously use those point-and-click-to-remove-person tools.

I agree, we have some organised crime here in the form of bikie gangs and there's a public shooting every few years and a couple of violent crimes bad enough to make national headlines every year but it's pretty tame compared to the states.

Going to war against NK would be a terrible step. Seoul would be devastated day 1.
Hopefully this is just a part of the smoke screen activity to make the americans forget that the administration is full of incompetent people.

I think the rest of your post proved my point. We all have or have had issues to resolve. It takes time and conscious effort by people that want to actually solve the issue(s) and not just keep fanning the flames. Just because you live in a State that is relatively calm at the moment doesn't mean things aren't going to take a nasty turn for the worse or that your country has never had issues.

It also doesn't help that we are a country of 350 million and growing rapidly, partly from unchecked births in certain segments of the population, partly from the level of immigrants coming into the country, legally or otherwise. It's a lot harder to meet demands of the people in any form of true republic or democracy with a larger population than a smaller one.

(I do hope you all got that the whole "#1" thing was a jest. )

I pray that reasonable minds will come about when it's time for mid-term elections in a couple of years, but when you have half the country with a bible shoved up their ass so far they're choking on Christ's words... it's hard to expect anything reasonable. No, Christianity isn't the problem, it the fundamentalist bullshit that this country runs on that's as batshit crazy as fundamentalist Islam the Sharia nutjobs enforce.
