there is only one idea here, the rest are options.
the punishment for a crime should cause more damage to the perpetrator than he did.
the higher the inevitability of punishment, the higher the effect

now in the game the punishment for killing newbies is disproportionately low, almost equal to 0, the killer does not receive damage even if he is killed in response, although this happens extremely rarely.

Good point, one buddy I played with in Foxhole joined H&H as it released in steam, he described this game as "Not the one where you are main character", which for me is pretty accurate.

Reminds me of how Vanilla World of Warcraft devs stated "the world is the main character."

You do realize faction PVP, honorable duels and bot/alt disposal all leave crime scenes? You'd be removing one of the most interesting aspects of the game and you'd be empowering raiders even more because bot abuse would be unpunishable.

Likewise under your system someone who killed in self-defense would lose their entire character because the game doesn't separate the difference between the aggressor and the attacker.

Not too mention people don't commit crime with their mains, they commit crime with disposeable crime alts... so the only people being punished by your system would be people killing in defense.

This might be one of the worst ideas i have ever seen, and it wasn't even in C&I

I think daily pop is pretty good right now. It's sitting at what, 1300+-?

Divide that by 2 (alts) and that's 700-800 players?

Steam is helping, but remember to help those players- not grieve them. All of the new Steam players I have run into need a lot of help- mostly to get them OFF the vanilla client and onto a custom, like Enders or something easy to click/run.

There are exactly two breeds on new players from steam launch: smart opportunistic fellas who are figuring out how game works and how to have most fun out of it. And the second group - cretins who are making thread after thread whining about hackers, griefers, pvp, retarded animal ai. They even found support in veteran cryers like Kaios (against everything) and that Rainbow guy (guys im trolling look). Latter is haven't seen for month btw, so ig he ate shit and died.

lol

Go back a couple of pages and you'll see:

If it maintains an average of 1300 or continues to decrease, that would mean the concurrent daily players are going down. Although, the peak at the start was somewhere around 1700-1800 wasn't it?

But it always goes down and would regardless of ganking. No matter what endgame is always gonna be a smaller population than start. Look at any MMO at the start of an Xpac vs end... the bigger thing is how many are staying versus coming in. It could be our player retention is ass due to ganking and just offset by new players coming in from steam, or it might be we have retentoon regardless... also we might have bad retention despite ganking.

Point is the drop isn't nearly as bad as other worlds.

How can you defend yourself from something by deliberately finishing off someone who has already been knocked out?

You can't ever finish someone off on the ground. How you get a murder scent is overkoing someone so they die on your last hit which happens in defense all the time and murder is highly essential for bot disposal, the abuse of which would be far more cataclysmic than is ganking.

We are already under 1k, actually more around 800 most of the times, and yes, Kaios is right: we got a large influx of new players, and one month in we already have under half the population, meaning you are loosing far more than the last server in the same time. This means also that the largest part of players leaving are the new ones.
