maybe I'm crazy but I think the job of a game designer is to make a set of systems that are fun to interact with, not to hyperfixate on the idea of something because it's cute with 0 care for if the mechanics even work or not

I think you have to do a bit of the latter in order to accomplish the former. Many well meaning people have informed me over the years that Haven isn't possible at all.

... but, grand philosophy somewhat aside; I don't quite see how it is controversial to say something like: "Kingdoms are intrinsically cool, and should be in the game in one way or another, and there is some mechanic by which we can meaningfully represent them as pieces in political conflict, and if we work on it we can find it".

More often than not the pattern is: "X is cool, how can we find a mechanic for it."

So basically it's dogshit, you recognize it's dogshit, but it has a cute coat of paint on it so you think it makes the game better? That's a pretty good microcosm for why the game is a bloated mess.

Since you didn't watch the video it's a 10v10ish fight over a thingwall. 1 Side is entirely rageless aggroing off of a Pclaim and shooting people with bows through a gatewall. People are literally """fighitng""" from inside their fucking walls in the current meta.

This is the kind of retard shit that happen when you just keep going "lol would it be cute uwu" over and over again with 0 thought/vision about how the mechanics will be.

No, I don't, but I could concede it for the sake of argument to make the point that: Even if it were true that it is dogshit, the problem is the mechanic, not the symbol, and the symbol could be placed on some good mechanic, and hence we ought to search for the good mechanic.

Hence I am interested in discussing which mechanics Realms should have, and consider "removing them" a non-suggestion, and an abdication of the problem I am interested in.
