Here is another good finnish song.
https://youtu.be/owLJQ5j978U
Though it might be a Finnish version of some other song, but still.
Includes a bad translation of lyrics:
His profession is a soldier, he is always fighting.
He is happy in his job, maybe.
He destroys and kills, but is still always smiling.
He does not know peace, or love at all.
He is brave man and has showed many skills to us, he fights with missiles and spears.
Even though he just turned 16, he is still serving for the thousandth year.
He fights for China, France and Vietnam, he defends the USA.
He destroys himself and everything for the sake of war, thinking that would take wars away.
He is catholic, atheist and even a jew, and he is a protestant too.
He knows that you should not kill, but he kills still, for you and me, my friend.
Without him, Hitler would have never got his victories, without him, Caesar would have been left alone.
Without a man like him, would there be a war at all, or would all terror have went away?
He is a soldier, not more, so criticize him
But his commands he gets from not far away
He gets them from you and me, o' my friends, see: this way wars will never end

I'll just leave this here

Still not happy with it and might redo eventually but I'm super critical of my own stuff

I think you screwed up with editing the sound into the song. It sounds weird. Or is it meant to be there because... art?

Could be, I'm not entirely sure how to 'mix' tracks lol

Is it the instruments that sound off?

Mostly just messing with the volume levels of the different tracks until you find the right balance of different instruments and vocals. Tweaking equalizer levels for each track and screwing with timings and such can polish. It's not easy, and the few recordings my band did when we were young were fun, but a headache. (That's why studios have sound engineers that get paid to do the tedious stuff... let the musicians make music.)

Was pretty good for an amateur recording. Keep it up!

Great cover version jordancoles - love your vocals going away from the "traditional" way it got sung so far (and yay the organ!)

Do you have tracks for each instrument itself? If so experiment a bit with panning of some (and also the choir vocals - you could even dash a very slight echo on them) - the leveling of the instruments to each other sounds very fine - (while i personally would drop some limiter on the cymbals - not the HiHat!) If you're mixing with single tracks always try to imagine a room when mixing - which you can hardly do when you've got only a stereo mixdown of the instrumental track - then it's really difficult to make the vocals sound embedded in front and not sounding like "set on top"

And it's always good to listen to your mix on every audio equipment you'll can get your hand on - even on crappy mono stuff !

Thanks :)

I usually record all of the individual tracks but for this one I only have the bulk instrumentals sadly. I was planning on messing with the vocals to make it blend together a little better though. In the 2nd half of the song the harmonies get a light tighter than in the beginning and it's been bugging me while listening to it back.

Some echo would be nice yeah, I'm using Reaper Audio which is a free recording/editing software and it has a million effects that are really poorly labelled lol
