I have changed my political views twice to date, as a late teen I just voted as my parents did, I'm certainly not alone in that, I didn't really care about politics in the same way as I do now, I was far more concerned with the numerous other things that occur in life once you leave the security of your parents house, lol, I wasn't then aware how much political policies influence those decisions.
Around the age of 21/23 is when I first started to take notice and realise just how much policies affected your choices in life, but then I was overly idealistic and genuinely thought I could change the world! Again, I'm certainly not alone there either.![]()
As with anything in life, the more you experience you have and the more you know, the better equipped you are to make the right choices.
oops forgot to add my comment!!
I take your point, but theres many issues which effect young people that we decide on as adults because we feel it's best. Take Brexit as an example, many older people may well have seen no benefit to themselves staying part of the European Union, and perhaps blame certain elements like the free movement of people for the current economic situation they're in. But many young people, who will be impacted by that vote long term, saw the opportunities it afforded. The ability to work, travel and study anywhere in Europe, in a world that's changing, where we are more easily connected, where universities are benefitting, research is benefitted and business use the UK as a country that links them to the rest of Europe. yet that decision was taken by a large majority of people who are not likely to be massively effected by this decision long term.
So yes, im sure there are many young people who have no clue, and likely chances are they wouldn't even get up to vote anyway, but sadly there are plenty of adults who also have no clue, yet are voting. so I dont think one age group shouldn't have the vote because they maybe not experienced enough, personally.
