Apart from the graphics almost everything is the same other than the obvious changes to things like combat, new mechanics such as Kingdoms and so on. It's a much better game now than it was back then, I'd have to agree with what Avu said.

We went from that weird thing always facing the same side and with radioactive straw roof to more varied, nicer houses that can face any direction and are fully customizable in terms of color due to the huge variety of woods and stones.

Just to mention one thing.

The 2D had some charm, sure. Especially if using one of the nice texture packs made by the community. But refusing to see all the graphical improvements is baffling - the game is very nice and has a unique atmosphere if you play without nightvision, lines, grids, claim markers, etc...

Your own preferences. For me, there's no way the current half-arsed 3D can trump over isometric 2D that was before, even in comparison with the shittier ones such as the one you presented.

Whoopsie - Before I was able to get on to screeny it, they took the servers down until the next test run. It will be there when the servers come back, however
