But you still support this crony capitalism project which'll be a giant transfer of tax payer money to big donors (who do you think will get the construction contracts?), even though it will be largely symbolic and won't have much practical effect?

I would, yes. Mandating e-verify for visas would be much more effective, but symbols are valuable. That's particularly true for low-info voters.

Still wouldn't work for the same reasons the wall won't work. add in tons of casualties to legitimate folks and that land mines of this sort are banned by the Geneva Convention (targeting civilians with indiscriminate weapons). Wouldn't put it past this administration to figure out a way to circumvent that, though.

Only if you are looking to manipulate the sheep. And then they're priceless.

I vote for a moat with alligators all around US!

The truth is we'll be more and more a besieged society, we'll need to defend ourself with weapons and technique to keep living with those kind of ease, and do you think the rest of the world will remain watching forever? It's just enough that some guys in the east eat one more bowl of rice a day, like it's happening, and we'd need to decrease.
Plus, in a besieged society won't longer be able to born a new Mozart or Beethoven ... and exactly on those notes we will fade away.

sMartins writes with all the finesse and persuasive rhetoric of a fifth grader. Each time I read one of his posts it's as if whole worlds open in my mind. Truly, one of the literary greats of our time.
“We still, alas, cannot forestall it-
This dreadful ailment's heavy toll;
The spleen is what the English call it,
We call it simply, Russian soul.”

An idea to consider: Tedium, a Feature.
