A Definitive History of the Great Haven Discord Schism of January 2024:0) mods of the Old Hafen Discord Server (aka Unofficial Discord or Hedgehugs Discord) instituted an automod to filter out certain words and grant (usually short) mutes to players who send them (n word, etc). I’m not sure how many people unironically cared about this, I personally didn’t.
1) Whatever Bay Villager Misa (aka TheServant/flyingknees), who was never particularly well liked there but was seen as a mostly harmless yapper, admits in Hedgehugs Discord to having sexual relations with a 15 year old child when he was 24.
2) Hedgehugs Discord explodes with activity discussing the above. To their credit the Hedgehugs mods (Alg, Rawrz, etc) permaban Misa immediately, however the discussion continues to harp on pedophilia, misa’s country of origin, whatever bay, etc. Even five months ago there was very little happening ingame worth discussing.
3) After days of constant discussion, Hedgehugs Discord mod Alg/Algeraith threatens to ban anybody who takes part in doxxing in their server and strongly suggests everybody shut up about misa
3a) “pedophile” was added to the automod filter and remains a banned word in the Hedgehugs Server to this day
4) a few hours later, Shaki/Dawidio123 mentions misa and is immediately permabanned by Alg. By his words Shaki did not know about the above (3) warnings from Alg, and to my knowledge has never participated in doxxing anyone.
4a) Shaki asks to be unbanned on the grounds that he had no idea what he was doing was permaban-worthy and was unsuccessful - Hedgehug mod Rawrz/Astarisk says that Alg is open to hearing a petition in a week. For reasons that’ll become clear such a petition is never sent
5) several users voice displeasure at this moderation decision. In an effort to restore order HH moderation (I believe it was Alg himself?) promotes Vareckeska/talon00302 to server moderator.
6) Shortly afterwards a user posted doxx. Vareckeska was the only mod online, and another user “Zadek/DonVelD” pinged Vareck to the tune of “hey isn’t that post against the rules? Do your job”. In response Vareckeska deleted the post containing doxx, muted the offending user, and banned Zadek. In a message justifying the banning, he claimed (lied) that Zadek was involved in the doxxing.
7) seeing how the winds were blowing, the overwhelming majority of active Haven veterans (excepting Hedgehugs and some of the hermits) created a new server: The Offical Haven and Hearth Discord Server (link below), and have gradually cut ties with the old Hedgehugs server over the past 5 months. There are more than a few users who still belong to both, but the newer server is significantly more active and energized.
7a) worth mentioning that at least ten of the users who left for the Offical Discord are faction-affiliated with either Shaki or Zadek, and those two groups have also allied with each other. However most of its users merely found the HH mod actions odd and worrying, such as Ardenness (who is friendly with players from many often enemy factions, including the hedgehugs, but is himself a solo player), and myself. Or are just random groups/hermits looking for somewhere to discuss Haven or socialize with the Haven community
As I’ve said before I harbor no particular ill will towards the Hedgehugs mods (also <3 Ziggy) but because of their actions I can’t see myself switching back to their discord and a massive portion of the existing playerbase feels the same way - maybe when the game is actually active we’ll really feel the difference. It’s true that the Hedgehug discord, being several years older, contains a much longer list of usernames. I prefer everyone trust their own judgement and use whatever discord(s) best suit their needs, anything’s better than the forums.
Now instead of making effortposts like this to explain the situation you can just link here when people ask what happened. Though if one of the names involved in the story asks such a thing I’d treat that request with extreme scrutiny. They know what they’ve done
