Quit your bullshit, it's always a matter of patience & competence. My friend that I introduced to the game, without any experience, with the use of wiki alone, was able to get to -9, kill trolls and mammoths (without safepali), grind a kiln that was better than <name redacted / a certain top faction player>'s, and do virtually any content besides meteor fights, in one year of playing SOLO. I know more examples like him.

I lurk in multiple discords, explain stuff to the newbies often, but most of them just can't grasp the most basic ideas, even when explained in the simplest words. Their attention span and level of comprehension is close to none, they are just not predestined to enjoy this type of a game.

Also, learn to quote properly.

At the end of the year yes he was certainly able to do approx 60 to 75% of what you said alone (or was playing on an empty world).
But actual newcomers just got 2-4 weeks old on the game. You can't compare them with your friend, or imagine how he was in his 1st weeks.

Players are just more casual than before, are allergic to mind work on the games and got near to zero resilience.
They are needing your help, if you want the success of H&H.

Yeah, it's very hard to ask on realm chat, discord, forum, ingame neighbor or even join village to learn. Poor newbies, nobody's here to help them with their heavy retardery and they don't even know how to ask shit. I bet if they didn't have someone telling them to eat every day they would starve immediately.

Every single one of us here was a sprucecap once, and every single one of us had to learn this game more or less by themselves OR be damned for eternity of the game. You cannot help people who don't want to learn unfortunately, and I met some peak retards that stated they were playing couple of worlds already, but still don't know how to properly assemble a fucking airlock. If they can't then perhaps this is not a game for them, tough luck, try something easier.

How many hours did that take in a year? Do you agree the game has timegated more features to appease veterans, meaning newbies are even more behind time-wise to learn the game properly?
Your investment in this game is so high you think everybody has to experience the same learning curve/time investment or they're enjoying the game wrongly. The same time/skill requirement which is the crux of this thread's (and frankly most of the suggestion/ideas) discussion regarding what's keeping haven from having more players.

The quote chain got to a quote limit and i had to remove a couple quotes and mischecked if the brackets matched. Don't be petty.

The game has time-gated more features to appease newbies to be honest. Nowadays you have more time and tools to get to each mine level the moment the factions do, to get more stats without the need to grind best food etc. You can either enjoy the game or not, there is no "good/wrong" enjoyment here. If something sucks too much time out of your life, then join a village and split roles, or lower your expectations. The game literally provides all the tools yet it is the reluctant, rigid, asocial, aphantasic hermit that refuses to use them. Is it hard? Yes. Should it appeal to everyone? No. The game has its own niche and functions perfectly well there. If you hate the game, then do not play it and do not shit up the forums with your complaints, it's that easy.

In no way timegating helps newbies. Catchup mechanics such as www? sure. But requiring lvl 5 for steel?

There's plenty of anecdotal evidence about hermits enjoying ultralategame because of q catchup, because then they can finally face mid-game PVE content and the chance of getting gnomed is lessened. But then the world ends. Since we've now got achievements i'm pretty curious to analyze how many people even manage to kill mammoths, cheese or not, due to how hard it is to get to that point anyway on your own or without minmaxing the game.

But then again, we already know all of that. You're just making the choice of not caring about it (which is fine i guess), but the player retention discussion is yet again brought to the same paradox. This isn't a dumb argument.

sorry, in what way is patronizingly bringing pyre up is an argument?
as timegating helping newbies? the time for minehole mats far exceeds the 24h burn time.
as lowering stat reqs? doesn't matter in the long run, you still face harder stones away from the minehole.

I gave you a link you could have opened it.

Once constructed light the Pyre with a lightsource and let it burn for 7 RL days if noone in the world build a minehole on this lvl yet, otherwise it will finish in 1 RL day.

That should answer your first question and the reason of my patrnonizing tone.
You're not aware or dont understand the mechanics involved you critic.

Honestly, I think there's no fair play but only some old grudges. People don't want competition in this game anymore, it's about humiliation of your opponents. This is what years of cancerous inbreeding within the game led to and there's no remedy to it anymore. This is, unfortunately, one of the old games where clique of sweats will literally do anything to drive the game into a graveyard within 3 months of world reset. This time they've cut it to 1,5 month which, ironically, is admirable. I give it 2-3 weeks before the "victorious" ones leave the game as well, someone has to post PoE 2 builds, otherwise they won't know what to do there.
