I left a walled hermit home with the key when I moved. Someone took a few items and the key. closed the gates, but never came back.

no, studying it is just a way of automatically refilling the LP it takes to maintain the claim. basically the bond takes what the claim needs when something finishes studying from what you should be getting and refills the authority on the claim. not only can you take it out and leave it in a cupboard permanently and just refill it actively from the claimpole you can also print a new bond of blood and soil at the claimpole if you lose this one. you can also just take it out for a few days, and then put it back for a few curios since they drain super slow and finishing a straw doll or two is enough to refill like a week of not having put lp into it.
