Newbie = just a Beginner, Starter, Freshie (implies nothing) - even Internet didn't change the meaning (only shortened it to newb in Newsgroups in 1980ties)

nub - noob - n00b = learning resistant person - sure a term that came up at Newsgroups on Internet in early 1990ties
( it's not in the big American Slang Dictionary 1984 edition i do have)

sure nub derived from newb but with included implications thus written and spoken different
