Didn't he just walk off the moutain? I was pretty sure that they spawn just there.

There is no mountain in the minimap picture. If they only spawn on mountains he must have walked pretty far.
On the other hand the only Mammoth kill I've witnessed was indeed on a mountain.

So maybe I was wrong and Mammoths are confirmed hikers.

No, the picture is from a friends newbie hermit alt standing on a different island. Image
It's possible that someone before her has agro'd and lost it. But unlikely.

Maybe it has to do with elevation? The area could be much higher than sea level.

i just found a mammoth in our prairie and there isnt any mountains nearby so lemme confirm that mammoths do NOT need a mountain to spawn.
Newbie and noob do not mean the same thing.
