if they're excessively barking only when you leave + they're normally skittish anyway they probably have really bad separation anxiety and if at all possible should not be left alone for long periods of time

if you don't have the time/money/effort to obtain the help of a professional dog trainer maybe have someone to be there while you're gone?
It is nice to rest your weary bones from time to time. It is nice to lay down your burdens. It is nice to have a seat.

If you stop feeding them they will stop barking after a week or two

What's the best way to get them to stop?

Kill everyone in your town.

Also, tell them that if they want to kill your dogs they will have to kill you first.

When wanting to learn how to do something, one should always look towards a known expert: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=dog+whisperer Mr. Millan has a website with several common issues. Excessive barking is one of them: https://www.cesarsway.com/dog-behavior/ ... nd-howling
:ugeek:

Dobermans are great dogs when well trained. Me, I'm more of a cat person. I love dogs, but they're too needy emotionally. I have a hard time dealing with the few other relations in my life, let alone a dog's need for attention. Cats need only a little attention in comparison.

Also, think we had a pet thread at one point for this kind of stuff... share pictures, problems, etc. Be nice if we had one again... ;)

Speak for yourself, my cat is a bloody attention whore. A cute attention whore but an attention whore nevertheless.

They're suffering from separation anxiety. Get them an animal therapist to resolve their issues, or just do the traditional approach and replace psychological problems with comfortable numbness by lacing their food with lots of Xanax.

It can take a long time to over-come separation anxiety, and a lot of time and effort on the part of the owner if you are going to try and train them yourself, it is one of the harder issues to solve and is usually achieved by slowly getting the dogs used to you leaving and returning, so for example day one of training would involve leaving the house but returning after say just 5 minutes, you would repeat this often, gradually increasing your absence over a period of time and as usual rewarding good behaviour. Y ou can use distraction techniques as well, such as leaving the house after you have placed their food bowls. There is quite a lot of info on the subject if you look. Once the dogs believe you will always return no matter how long you are gone the barking should stop. It is sometimes too deeply instilled in them and training is not always successful though it should be said.

They are guard dogs my friend, they will bark at anything they see a threat. You can try to go to parks and shit with them so they are more calm when they see other dogs and people. another thing would be try to keep them inside.

But then I realized you've meant "parks and shit". Oh well, I thought I've learned something new about calming a dog down =(
