Despite doing everything i can to avoid contact with others, I somehow managed to make some friends in my college course back when i started in 2009 or whenever it was (holy fuck guys where does the time go), one of them saw my taste in games and recommended haven and hearth for me to try out. I googled it but kept searching for heaven and hearth. I wasn't too starved for something to play so i gave up quickly and made a mental note to ask him about it. A month later he inquired if I had tried it, i said I had not, and we planned to hang out at his place after class to learn me the basics.
He's into the whole marijuana thing, not a total reject burnout but a stoner for sure, and I decide to accept his offer of a puff. I had done it before with no effect, and this time i focused on doing it right. I did it right. It made it very hard to learn the game, but i definitely liked what i had tried, aside from the horrible patches of satanic static that seemed to pursue me in my endeavors (ants).
The following day I sat back down with it and tried to recall what i had learned in my first drug-induced haze. I died a lot back then but i thoroughly enjoyed the game as a whole and the fantastic spritework.
I do miss that spritework but the game has evolved in a way i adore. The development had me playing for a month like a madman, and then stopping for a few months while things moved forward. After doing this a few times i stopped dying altogether, started to get further into game mechanics. Salem was an interesting change, I went for that once it had come into it's own some and me and my college friend had an alright time with it, but once i came back to haven afterwards it was like having an annoying constant noise you forgot about shut off suddenly, leaving you to soak in the relative silence that follows.
Also I smoke pot every fucking day and it simultaneously sucks and is awesome, I hate having a vice, but I love having no other vices (aside from video games and coding, but people label those as 'hobbies'). I hate spending money on it every month, but i love spending NO money on more games and enjoying the ones i have.
