Forgot they reworked the mining frigates a year or two ago and there is one that is better at it than used to be, but still isn't a t2 barge.

Mining rock is not too profitable.
If you absolutely want to "mine".
Go and suck some gas from wormholes. With some luck you can make hundreds of millions in one hour.

You earn like not enough millions per hour.
If you have ability to keep client running on background its surely better than doing nothing. Except if you get ganked.
Mining for plex is craziness. You can make more money in FW plexing waay more easily. And if you dare to go to null, you can get 20+mil ticks by afking. With chance for ded sites and escalations, which might give some additional profits.

Yes.

True Nullsec AFK ratting is insanely profitable even without selling the sites to runners.

But thanks to all the dedicated miners I guess, someone has to suck it for me to get rich! :P

True indeed.
Without miners there wouldn't be much of anything.

Yeah, I still do pretty good in wormholes, or at least did the last time I played. I've been trying to get the alliance to pack up and move to a higher level hole, but they want high sec access on a regular basis, and don't like the idea of multiple hops to get through a class 4, not to mention the carrier and rorq sitting at the station. (Most people leave when they see them.)

Which is also another way to make good isk if you want to pirate other players. A lot of people get caught off guard in wormholes. Catching someone slacking can net you tens of millions in modules and salvage for just one kill.
